Summer in the city in the '016

Summer in and out of the city and the weather has been good. Too good at times for our teeny flat - it’s been a warm one and when you live in a box atop a number of other boxes then you can struggle to ventilate effectively. Especially when you’re expecting. But no matter, we’ve tasted sunshine on numerous occasions over these clement months and it’s been as jolly as it has been sweaty.

What have we been doing I hear no one cry? Well it’s all go innit. There’s been potential home purchases attempting to be made, then sprogs flying all over the place from various nooks and crannies across the UK. While we’ve been learning how to be humans, with all this growing up going on, it’s also been vibes to keep it foolish yeah? So there have been a few late, late, late ones, then some consistent little ones to keep the beery fires burning. We’ve eaten lots of ice, had our eyes scalded by some pornographic toilets (Hunter S - I’m looking at you here), feasted on supermarket trifle, read like readings been going out of fashion and done some business at Notting Hill. Check out what a g’wan. Now, in many ways, it’s going to get real…

Going round Luke Solomon's gaff

Last week me and my work buddy Carl got on the Northern Line and didn't stop until we got to the end. High Barnet is the final destination of the northern part of the tube and it goes on and on and on until you're in what seems like the countryside. It's definitely green and full of trees.

These are the ends of Classic Music Company DJ and producer Luke Solomon. It's leafy, suburban and about as 'unhouse' as you can possibly get. However, our trip was all about interviewing LS in his home studio and having a right old manly geek off about his equipment, gear and records.

After knocking on his door and finding a hungover chap ('Derrick was over last night' As in Derrick Carter - oof), we soon got to waffling in his laboratory. He was incredidbly genial about my technical incompetence with the video camera being waved in his face and Carl did a mint job of stitching our ramblings together into something positively coherent. Here are the fruits of our labours.

There was so much of our chat going on, we had to split it into two parts...

If this all a bit too techy for thee, you can also stream a riotous late night set from Luke and his buddy Rob Mello below. It's from this year's Glastonbury sometime on Saturday night/Sunday morning...

Apples and tunes

Big tunes have been popping up all over the shop during recent weeks - and the smorgasboard of seemingly sources is getting more random. Sign of the times innit. But the quality is pure. The new Oneman mix for the Hudmo-affiliated LuckyMe outpost had this beaut from Starkey on it. The tape is a gritty snapshot of where bass has been, is now at and where it's heading. Get your tits on it...

Last weekend we were up in Sheffield for the massive Rude Movements party with Toddla and Zed Bias. Our warm up consisted of drinking a wide range of lagers and checking Magic FM - this bad lad and the lass below were two of the best to pop up while the vibe was getting saucey. Ooof...

The last one is so fucking house it hurts. Proper end of the night uplifting vibez - when one gets offered a new job it should be compulsory to listen to this smacker on repeat until your head explodes...
