The first Bank Holiday mash up

Word up. At last the Bank Holiday weekend season is bearing down upon us like a pirate with a cutlass made out of booze.

It can be an extra day to put some shelves up, polish the dildoes or make sure the allotment weeds are aligned. For us it meant an extra evening of getting drinky with it.

Thursday was the wife's birthday bash which saw our crew crawl across east London and stay 'out' (not necessarily 'up') til the alarm for work went off. Friday and Saturday were more domestic if no less abusive affairs. And Sunday was the final nail in the coffin of sanity at Bugged Out!'s All Dayer. Located in the mildly salubrious environs of the Old Queen's Head in Islington, it was a day of strong looks and even stronger stares.

When we arrived at 4ish there were a number of trendies eyeballing each other waiting for tings to the party touch paper to be lit. Kate Bush, Toto and Fleetwood Mac cut through the comedowns and wrapped the room up in a placenta made out of 80s soft rock. Then Dan Beaumont from Disco Bloodbath played this...

...and everyone went ape.

As it was still light outside someone shut the windows and Johnno Burgess wheeled out his yacht rock selection which encouraged a brace of enthusiastic jigging. Apparently the secret guest was Mylo but by the time he must have appeared we were long gone. We ended up in Macdonald's in Bethnall Green. I had my camera on me all day but neglected to take any piccies of the Bugged Out! chaos. For some reason I did snap these beauties of the toilets in Maccy D's. I can't remember why...

Full to bursting

Bashy is the millionaire

Yucky yucky. Over the weekend I had the fortune to interview Toddla T for a feature in I-DJ magazine. We conducted our conversation in a boozer in Whitechapel and T-Willy turned us onto a pair of new tracks he's been working on.

One of them is with Roisin Murphy, which sounds amazing. The other is this. Millionaire by dancehall man Bashy. It is indeed Bashy. But is it too Bashy?

You decide by checking it oot here on 1Xtra's Mista Jam's set just da other week.

Some of the best things in life are Belgian

Mysen and Ms Alsop took a jaunt to Belgium just da other week. We booked it purely because it was cheap as chips to hop on a Eurostar choo choo and hit up the capital of the EU.

The trip was full of food and adventure despite almost missing the train over there. Turns out the country’s national flex is encapsulated in a small pissing boy, which is, as they say, a strong look.

We took a trip to a museum of musical instruments, drank some deeply strong ales and ate like a pair of ravenous hounds hell bent on growing a joint paunch as large as a leaky barge. I spoke very poor French to a few natives who took pity on my warbling and served me another glass of booze. Smoking snouts inside reminded me of how good it was back in the days when pubs were pubs and anyone who chooses not to chuff is a little nancy boy.

One of the best bits was visiting Ghent, which was picturesque as fuck. I showed my true colours and demonstrated that I’ve got a real fear of heights when we reached the top of a cathedral tower. We drank, ate and imagined that Soulwax were making a record in a flat round the corner.

Plus we also saw the Atomium which was a space-age Flash Gordonesque structure made out of massive silver balls. It was total and utter hype.

DJ Koze and Reincarnations

It's Bank Holiday. I've got a headache the size of Mars and the breath of a sailor after ten pints and jar of pickled eggs.

But that's beside the point. Techno goes on despite how green the colour of my tongue and yellow the inside of my guts. So props to German nutbar DJ Koze who decided to release a collection of remixes dubbed Reincarnations. It's pretty weird sounding but well worth checking.

I picked it up at work as funnily enough there wasn't a queue of colleagues clammering to witter some words on it.

So I did - check them here

London Town

T’other week time was taken out from the daily grind to traverse the London streets and see what was shaking. First stop was Wetherspoons for a lovely spot of fish, fresh from the deep fat fryer. Yes. Yes.

Following that we took to the streets and in the absence of any dosh meandered through the corridors of power drinking in the sights and admiring streets which weren’t covered in chicken bones.

Bucky P, Brown’s stomping ground in Whitehall, a slice of Green Park, popping into the ICA followed by bouncing past the Ritz and hailing a tube back East. It was deeply Balearic and enhanced by chowing down on an off cup of tea.

That weekend we got messed up big time and I reverted to type by trying (unsuccessfully) to take a picture of a beautiful scotch egg. I failed but it came in a lovely white boat. And set sail straight into my greasy gob. Wobble on that.

Royal vibes

Not lost. At all. No way.

GRUM

Wordola people. Little bit of a break from the shackles of the typewriter but we're back and repping. Here's summat fresh from GRUM, a mad young man from Leeds who sounds like he's been licking Daft Punk records and watching Tron on repeat.

He's been banging round the blogs for a while and now Zane Lowe has done a sex wee on him and baptised the man in name of Radio 1.

So there you have it. I'm slower than the Lowe. But honestly I've been repping him for time. Check his No Love Lost Records mixtape here. It was a soundtrack to us accidentally smashing up our flat when we first moved to the smoke last October. Plus someone's put together this ridiculous video to accompany GRUM's debut single, Runaway. It's a weird soft porn Thriller-esque vid feat. a Dan Ackroyd look alike getting fresh with some ladies. Er serious...

Blood red freewheeling

I'm backed up with verbalisations to smack all over this webpage. While I collect my thoughts, get the thread straight and rearrange my pants here's summat that's slightly old but still sounds as fresh as a lovely new day.

Aeroplane are doing the bizness right now and this is it. Even better is the 12 inch which comes in blood red. Plus the middle of the record is a close up of the cartoon Sebastian Tellier's crotch. I'm not sure he's sex on a stick so this is one for the ladies with the feted mind and the sunglasses.

Well worth checking is this month's Mixmag cd as Aeroplane are at the helm. It's called Disco Balearia. Plus this is pretty gold too and is offa another mixmag cd. Although the magazine is officially the biggest pile of dogshit money can buy.
