The Squire of Gothos

Hype

Stella and bass. Two of my favourite tings and a vibe that the November Rough Disko was practically dripping in. The Squire of Gothos were the guests, a pair of South Yorkshire gents in love with bassline, boozers and squat parties and are into it, 185%. Check their 'Ravelord' EP on Electro Stimulation Records - it’s daft, brilliant and banging in equal measure.

The Squire even brought their own crew to the bashment, a flock of mad scally kids in love with the groinal riddims of DJ Funk and DJ Assault as well as their well warped Sheffeel take on booty-slapping electronic bass. As Jude pointed out, these are the kids that hang around parties we’re too old, too boring and too bland to hear about afterwards, never mind get an invite to.

When it was the Squire’s turn to flick the switch at the heart of our little rave, they revved the vibe up summat rotten. One fellow bellowing into a mike, the other in a Danger Mouse costume twatting out primal bassline booty shakers.

Throw in a crate of wife beater, 60 other pissheads and the party vibe was lubed up good and proper. You can imagine the chaos and the stagger we had on the way home. It took me over a week to get better following this. Proper alcohol poisoning vibes. The quality of the photos is a direct indication of the sort of shapes that we were saying. Big Up the fucking Squire!

YES YES ONLINE SPACE here we go, here we go - I’ve been crafting wordy tings for a while for various publications - FACT, STOOL PIGEON, SANDMAN SHEFFIELD TELEGRAPH, have been just some of my avenues/victims so getting blogstatic seemed like the next appropriate avenue from which to vent forth a spleen located nowhere near the fast lane.

Expect missives erratic and irregular on host of tings - mainly raving, swearing, drinking and the club nights and live gigs we put on and frequent…

I’m part of a collection of fools who put together our electronic club night ROUGH DISKO which can be as erratic and hit and miss as we are - We get drunk and play stonking electronic bangers we love to people who enjoy wrecking their heads as much as we do…

Here’s a link to Rough Disko’s obligatory Myspace - we’ve been operating for 3 years on our own bank defying terms throwing dos and Djing when we’ve got the impetus and a new set of tunes that’ll make it worth your while turning up and checking us…

What evs tho bevs, that’s all by the by…First log on here so to speak is a big up to a Sheffield’s future star, the wee man with the beefy beats who’s firmly riding the 'zeitgeist' aka 'bassline' aka 'club tackle that the North has been bouncing on for time but now London's found out' about. Steel city batty boy, TODDLA T has the hype firmly between his legs...

I’ve been privy and pleasured to doing a few blurbs for the boy as he slowly soars out of our orbit and into the big league. The photo above charts the latest haul I received from him for a big up for his agent (minus the wedge which evaporated a long time ago)...

Check it - that’s my reward for serving up Sheffield golden boy wonder with his latest hunk of word quiche and you’d better believe those verbs sizzled like his batty does.
As a brucey bonus, the scamp sorted us with a promo of the latest Craig David single - that’s a twisted sort of love which don’t come for free…

We caught the train down to Fabric last weekend to check him make his main room debut at the place as part of Sinden's Get Familiar soiree. Predictably he socked it to them. Herve aka The Count, dropped a horrible beast which had parts of Papa Roach’s Last Resort in it. Too much dude, too much…

I was gonna get some shots of inside Fabric but the disappointment of the night crossed with my fear of losing everything I owned meant the lens stayed in the bag.

Instead check out the boozer we went to the following night in Miles End. In the background there's a covers 'band' playing what a mucker described as the most lonely music in the world. The dude in the bottom left of the picture was a dwarf with a passion for stalking ladies round the pub while supposedly on glass collecting duties.

While we were outside taking down a snout, a local came over and told us "it's nice to be nice" after we'd just ingested the remnants of our weekend and were beginning to lose the plot on a massive scale. Much, much more fun than Fabric...
