Factory Floor vs Daniel Avery

Buzz bands round London are ten a penny but none have buzzed so frequently as Factory Floor. This industrial noise trio just about reach the brink of getting out of there arty, post-punky-dancey niche before falling back again to general indifference and shrugging of shoulders. But this time, perhaps, things could be different. They're doing some 'big tings' (on the more 'dancier' side of their sound) proving that 'funk' and the subtle employment of the 'funk' is all important. Let that be a lesson to you buzz bands of the future. Use more funk.

Below, they get all musically intertwined with Weatherall prodigy Daniel Avery and it sounds fucking mint. I spoke to Factory Floor back in January and found out one of their members lives in a caravan. Shocker.

End of year bleeeeeerugh

The end of every year sees every man and his mouse attempting to compile comprehensive lists to sum up the proceeding 12 months and what the most proper aural bits were.
It's a list. You've made. And it's boring. In the spirit of boredom, here are some of the tunes which have been getting my goat over the last month or two. These ain't been mentioned before on here cos we never look back and we always looking forward... Fuck your lists!

Daniel Avery - Movement

The name Daniel Avery isn't one that immediately conjures up images of red lit strewn basements full of nefarious electronic activity. But, if your ears catch any of his records, then you can instantly tell that his blood was boiled in the night. He's succeeding in making Weatherall-indebted bleeps which sound as fresh as much they do classic. Which is no mean feat when many the aim of a current producer is to either go faster or louder.

Previously working under the moniker of Stopmakingme, Avery has taken a massive leap forward over the last 12 months releasing records on Relish, Games of Throne and then signing to the Phantasy imprint lorded over by zappy-techno merchant Erol Alkan.

Check out the review I did of his Movement EP over here and listen to one of the best bits from it below. Get to know this dude. If he's not large and in-charge by the end of 2012, then I'd be tempted to eat my hat. Or at least add a dollop of ketchup to its brim...
